Rise of the Geshe-Ma follows Tibetan Buddhist nuns pursuing the highest level of monastic scholarship. Through scenes of study, debate, meditation, and daily practice, the film gives viewers a closer understanding of the commitment behind the Geshema degree.
In 2016, the first Tibetan nuns received this degree. Their achievement opened a path for future generations of women studying Buddhist philosophy. The documentary places their experience at the center of the story, showing a living tradition through the people carrying it forward.
